Mobile phones or more often called cell phones are portable devices that can be used for mobile communication almost everywhere. In addition to common voice functions like classic phones, mobile phones may also have instant messaging, internet functionality, audio and even video messaging.

Mobile phones generally get their power from internal batteries that are charged from the electric socket at home. Earlier batteries of mobile phones where made of nickel metal-hydride due to their low-weight and size. In recent times, mobile phone companies use lithium-polymer batteries. The different companies are constantly coming up with newer designs and features of mobile phones. The competition is intense in this market. The leading mobile companies include Sony Ericsson and HTC that are constantly developing high-end mobile phones to suit the needs of their users everywhere in the world.

The most modern mobile phones are advanced electronic devices ranging from elegant PDA’s, to the exquisite Nokia N-series and the fashionable Samsung editions. The latest mobile phones are innovative products which captivates the potential buyers with advanced functions and gorgeous design.

To see all the new mobile phone inventions, you need to find a website with the knowledge you need. One favorite of mine is mobiltelefoni and Mobile Phones – A Fantastic Device, there you can read all about the new mobile phones and more classic models from companies like Sony Ericsson and HTC. In addition, you can read the specifications of the different models on that website.

Most mobile phones have a low-power transceiver that sends and receives voice and data to the nearest mobile sites. When the mobile phone or data device is turned on, it registers with the mobile telephone switch, with its identifiers hidden inside its circuit board. A small chip called the sim-card is inserted in the mobile to use the needed coverage from the choosen service provider.

Communication between the handset and the mobile switch in mobile phones is a continuous stream of bits that includes audio and video. The technologies used for mobile communication are classified by generation. The first generation systems was started in 1979 in Japan, were all using analog signals that included classics like NMT. The second generation systems appeared in 1991 somewhere in Finland that was all based on digital communication modes which included CDMA. Third generation systems are being incorporated in modern times and allows high speed data access and voice services that include UMTS and CDMA2000 EV-DO.

Technology is constantly developing, so it is unthinkable that we soon see mobile phones based on biometrics. People are becoming more aware about mobile phones and their features every day and they have become an important part of life.
